The City of Colorado Springs has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the 2012 federal Safe Routes to School program, which will pay for improvements around Bates Elementary School in the Cragmoor neighborhood.

The grant will pay for sidewalks, pedestrian ramps and a better school crossing location. Construction is planned for 2013.
