Local growers lined up to deliver tons of grapes to The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey in Canon City Monday. More than 20 different varietals had been delivered by early afternoon. The locally grown grapes are used in the winery's Wild Cañon Harvest.
In addition to individual growers, Colorado Correctional Industries Vineyards delivered a portion of their grapes. The prison's harvest was about double what was anticipated, according to Sally Davidson, Director of Marketing for Holy Cross Abbey. The prison will deliver several more tons of grapes on Tuesday.
The Abbey's 9th Annual Harvest Festival will be held Sept. 25 - 26. You'll be able to sample the Abbey's wines, dine on gourmet wine and enjoy a variety of music from Jazz to New Age. Admission is free.
