Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado will be featured on a quarter to be minted in 2014.

The U.S. Mint said Wednesday the park will represent Colorado in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, which includes a site from each state, the District of Columbia and five territories.

There's been no word on the design for the Great Sand Dunes quarter.

Sites for the coins were recommended by the Mint and approved by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

The Mint says it consulted with leaders of each state and territory and with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. Salazar is a former senator from Colorado who grew up on a ranch not far from the sand dunes. The park includes 30 square miles of sand dunes and 13,604-foot-high Tijeras Peak.
