Grocery stores busy ahead of holiday weekend

COLORADO SPRINGS - As shopping malls and retailers anxiously wait for the rush of Black Friday shoppers, one of the busiest days for grocery stores is today.

At the King Soopers on Centennial Boulevard in Colorado Springs, News 5 found hundreds of shoppers keeping the cashiers and clerks busy.

The usual last minute rush for groceries seems to be growing as shoppers find it harder to make time to get to the store.

"Oh yeah, super busy," described shopper Essence Williams. "Like I'm freaking out in the aisles."

Carolyn Cathey described the store as packed. "Last minute rush, boy, people are, they have a lot to be thankful for," Cathey said.

On the bright side for supermarkets, a nationwide survey by the retail industry group inmar finds almost 78 percent of shoppers expect to spend as much or more on groceries this holiday season compared to last year.
