COLORADO SPRINGS - Many survivors of the Black Forest fire who lost their homes now face the challenge of trying to remember everything that was inside. To make the process of filling out insurance claims easier, the Rocky Mountain Association of Independent Public Adjusters has put together this 35 page memory guide.
It walks individuals through their home room-by-room with a check list potential items they may have owned. Depending on the language of individual policies, those fire survivors have a limited time to submit an inventory of personal property during the process of making a claim.
State lawmakers recently extended the length of time policy holders have submit their personal property inventories to 180 days after the date their initial claim is filed. However, the changes of House Bill 13-1225 do not take effect until January 1, 2014.
