News reports and local authorities in Venezuela have reported that an outbreak of the H1N1 flu has killed 17 people and infected another 250.
H1N1, often called Swine Flu, was a flu strain that swept around the world in 2009 and 2010 in a pandemic.
The federal government said high risk groups had largely been immunized earlier this year.
The World Health Organization says more than 18,000 people were killed in the pandemic that began in 2009, but a study in a British medical journal said the actual death toll may have been 15 times higher than that.
