Hail damage could save you money on a car purchase

In the wake of Wednesday's hail storm, car dealerships are dealing with damage left to their vehicles.

At Phil Long Ford - Motor City, general manager Tim Anthony says damage is in the light to moderate range with quarter or nickel-sized dents covering some cars.

However, Anthony says the hail damage could actually save you money when buying a car.

"It's a great time to bargain shop," he says. "We live in Colorado, they'll be other hail storms and folks looking for the most bang for their buck."

He says many dealerships will either get the car repaired back to its sales floor condition, or they'll give you a check for the damage after the insurance adjuster places a value on it.

Anthony says this is the fourth time in his career he's dealt with a hail storm. His advice if your car has sustained damage, is to not break the paint if you don't have to. He also recommends going to a licensed dealership.
