Hallmark show moves from Telluride to Canada

TELLURIDE, Colo. (AP) - A Hallmark Channel television series that planned to shoot in Telluride will be produced in Vancouver, British Columbia, instead.

State and Hallmark Channel officials said in June that "When Calls the Heart" had received state incentives to film in Telluride.

But the Telluride Daily Planet reports that when the number of episodes for the first season grew from six to 13, a 20 percent tax rebate that the state offered wasn't enough to cover the project's budget. Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media director Donald Zuckerman says the state could only offer $2.7 million in incentives.

Producer Brian Bird says the show also couldn't get guaranteed state incentives each year.

Producers had estimated they would employ about 100 weekly workers each season, plus 250 workers and extras.
