Hazardous Materials crews in Colorado Springs were called to a machine shop on Delta Drive located near the scene of an early morning shooting after officers in the area noticed a green liquid flowing from the back of a building.
The HAZMAT team with the Colorado Springs Fire Department determined that the liquid was part of a chemical a wash used in the metal plating process. The liquid has a very low acid content.
Lt. Stacy Villapando of the CSFD says because liquid was flowing into a drainage culvert, fire fighters wanted to make sure that wasn't harmful.
"There is no harm to animals, plants or people," Villapando said. "We did not evacuate because there (were) no vapors."
Villapando says the owner of the metal plating business Finishes Ltd. was very cooperative. The leak has been ruled as an accident.
