Health department reminds you to test for radon

One out of every three houses in Colorado has elevated levels of radon, which is the second leading cause of lung cancer. It's a radioactive gas, which can seep into your home through the soil.

January is National Radon Action month and the Pueblo City-County Health Department wants to remind people testing is the only way to know for sure if radon is in your home.

If your house tests positive, you don't necessarily have to move. Experts say you can install a radon removal system for about $1,000.

You can get a free radon test kit at the Pueblo health department, located at 101 W. 9th St. For more questions, contact the radon hotline at 719-252-6258.
