High Country snow & Front Range flurries

WEATHER DISCUSSION: The Pacific low pressure circulation that brought snow to the High Country has moved into the Midwest and the Ohio Valley, creating a massive ice storm from Chicago to Cincinnati. It is headed toward the New England states for Monday. Meanwhile a colder Canadian system is riding the northern branch of the jet stream toward Colorado. Clouds were already increasing over western Colorado Sunday evening. Snow, which could be heavy at times, will also be on the increase overnight Sunday, especially along and west of the Continental Divide. A Winter Storm Warning has been hoisted for most areas of the Rockies from the Divide and west. An Avalanche Watch has been issued for the central and northern Mountains. For the San Juans, an Avalanche Warning is in effect. Central and northern mountains could measure 8-16 inches of snow, with 20 inches or more possible in localized cases. In the San Juans, two feet of snow with four-foot drifts are expected. The snow could begin spilling over the Divide Monday evening, which means at least snow flurries are possible along and west of I-25 into Tuesday morning. Most likely, not everyone will actually see snow, especially out of the mountains, but those flurries are possible in both Colorado Springs and Pueblo early Tuesday morning. Once this cold low pressure swirl moves east of us, a very cold air flow will open up for our area, bringing temperatures into the single digits and teens Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Most of our area will likely hit high temperatures before sunrise Tuesday morning, and temperatures will fall from there. From Wednesday's cold start, a warming trend begins, and temperatures will slowly climb back into the teens and 20's for lows and 50's for highs - with 40's in the higher elevations - by the weekend.
