The City of Colorado Springs hopes a new roadway near Drennan and Academy called the Proby Parkway will mean big things for the city. "It's going to improve access to the airport." Explains Colorado Springs City Councilman Bernie Herpin," And just as important for the neighborhood it's going to take a lot of traffic off of Drennan."
In addition to faster access to the airport, city council hopes this new project means more airlines coming into Colorado Springs. "We're working not only to improve access to the airport, but we have hopes it will bring in a low cost airline or more airline service." explains Herpin.
The project isn't going to be cheap but thanks to a voter approved tax, it's not coming out of an already shaky city budget. "This project is going to cost around $55.4 million dollars all out of PPRTA money, not the city money." says Herpin, "It's from the tax voters passed in 2004."
Although construction has already started the official ground breaking will take place Tuesday. City Council hopes all construction will be finished by October 2011.
