GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - The Mesa County Sheriff's Department says a missing person case dating back more than two decades could be solved after a hiker found a human skeleton in a partially buried car southwest of Gateway.
Sgt. Matt Lewis tells the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel (http://bit.ly/10isOEI ) a man hiking near John Brown Canyon Road called 911 at about 6 p.m. Thursday to report the crashed vehicle, which was below a cliff roughly 100 feet off the roadway. The vehicle was partially obscured by rocks and sediment presumably washed down over the years.
Lewis declined to identify the missing person case by name but said it involved a man who lived in Mesa County at the time. Authorities are working to identify relatives.
Foul play was never suspected in the case.
