Hiker rescued after fall in Phantom Canyon

A Florence woman is recovering in the hospital after being rescued after a long fall.

Fremont County Sheriff's Office says 20-year Brandi Blankenship was hurt when she fell while hiking with friends in the Phantom Canyon area north of Florence around 3:30pm Sunday afternoon. Blankenship was climbing up a rockslide about 600-feet above the County Road 67 when she fell 20-feet and then was hit by a rock that dislodged above her.

Fremont Search & Rescue was assisted by Florence Fire, U.S. Forest Service and Fremont County Sheriff's personnel during the 3 ½ hour high angle technical rope rescue. Blankenship is listed in stable condition as of this morning.
