There has been a history of devastating floods.
In 1935, 18 people lost their lives after a large spring storm that caused a flood.
It was devastating to those living near Monument Valley park.
Those with the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum say after that, funding followed to help mitigate the damage.
"It was really an attempt to try and save downtown Colorado Springs from being wiped out by future floods..and it really worked for 30 years," said Matt Mayberry, director of the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum.
Another destructive flood in 1965.
Since then, nothing as devastating has occurred, but the Waldo Canyon wildfire, and the barren wasteland it left behind could change all that this year.
