KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Right-hander Luke Hochevar has agreed to terms on a new contract with the Kansas City Royals.
The deal will enable the Royals to avoid arbitration on Hochevar, the former Fowler high school star, who has been generally a disappointment since getting taken with the first overall pick in the 2006 draft.
He was 6-6 last year with a 4.81 ERA in 18 games, including 17 starts. A right elbow strain caused him to miss more than two months. He is 19-32 with a 5.60 ERA in 69 appearances for the Royals, including 65 starts.
The Royals did not disclose terms of the agreement.
