Home labeled 'public nuisance' under settlement

A Longmont home that has drawn complaints from neighbors and authorities described as a gang hub will be labeled a "public nuisance" and have restrictions on who can visit and live there under a lawsuit settlement.

The proposed settlement released Friday would end Boulder County's lawsuit against the couple who live there, Joseph and Vera DeHerrera. Authorities alleged that police reports, 911 calls, and neighbors' complaints showed the home had been problematic since 1983.

The couple was not the subject of any allegations but authorities say gang members were often there. The family argued they were being harassed by police.

No one on parole or probation can visit the home and no more than four people can visit at a time under some of the terms of the settlement.
