A homeless shelter in Pueblo has come up with a unique concept to help make ends meet. The Wayside Cross Gospel Rescue Mission recently opened a lunch buffet to the public.
The cost is a $1.50 per pound of food. The shelter says it expects to raise money because 70% of their food is donated and many of the crew members are unpaid volunteers who stay at the shelter.
"The economy is so tight right now, we just wanted to come up with a way to not only do a fundraiser, but offer something to the public that would make them more aware of what we do," said Michelle Sandoval, Wayside's Acting Director.
"Us having a full facilitated kitchen, why are we struggling for income when we can offer people something for what we need? We need the money, we can offer them a meal for that money," said William Muldrew, Wayside's paid professional chef.
The Wayside Cross serves lunch on Mondays only, from from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They're located at 728 W. 4th St. in Ddowntown Pueblo and can be reached at 719-544-4000.
