Two people are dead, a man and a woman, and one man had to be flown to a nearby hospital after fire broke out, just before 3 a.m., Friday in Cripple Creek. State and local investigators are still trying to find out what happened.
Neighbors that News First 5 spoke with say they were surprised to hear that two people had died inside the home, in the 200 block of West Carr Ave. The condition of the man flown out for medical treatment is still unknown.
Aaron Abachiche lives just a couple of houses down and he could see the fire from his window.
"I rolled over, out of bed, and I saw an orange glow," says Abachiche. The whole incident is very unsettling for him. "It just really affects you when you see or hear something like that." That's a sentiment that will undoubtedly be felt by many in the small mountain community.
"To have a city this small, two tragic deaths and somebody being injured is very heartbreaking to this community," says Jan Hamilton, public information officer for Cripple Creek.
No word yet on the cause of the fire. Investigation from Cripple Creek Police and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation continues.
As of Friday night, names of the victims have not been released. Autopsies have been scheduled for Monday.
