Huerfano Courthouse closed due to tower damage

Court and probation operations at the Huerfano County Courthouse in Walsenburg have been suspended because of safety concerns.  On Friday some large sections of rock broke loose and fell from the courthouse tower.

State officials from the Judicial Department and State Office of Risk Management are in the process of evaluating the building. A formal report is expected to be released later this week. In the meantime, local court officials are trying to find an alternate location.

People scheduled to appear in court or those with probation appointments on Tuesday, March 8; Wednesday, March 9; Thursday, March 10; or Friday, March 11, 2011, are not required to appear at the courthouse in Walsenburg on those dates. However, those individuals are required to call 719-738-1040 on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, for further instructions.
