Expect big delays on Hwy 24 between Colorado Springs and Woodland Park.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will replace the bridge deck of the eastbound Fountain Creek Bridge on U.S. 24 in Cascade.

Starting Tuesday night, the bridge will be closed, with all traffic detoured. The speed limit through the detour area will be 35 mph.

Construction will take about two weeks. "Closing the entire bridge to traffic allows us to complete the work quickly and efficiently," says CDOT Resident Engineer Dave Watt. "It normally would take about three months to reconstruct a similar bridge if we maintained one lane of traffic on it. This way, work can be done within 14 days."

When work is complete in Cascade, two other structures will be replaced - one on U.S. 24, just east of Florissant, and the other on State Highway 67, at the north end of Woodland Park.
