It was a somber day at Fort Carson this morning as the army honored another one of its own.
PFC Eric Soufrine, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, was just a few months shy of his twenty-first birthday and only three weeks away from coming home before an IED took his life.
"He loved his job. He loved rolling out. He loved going on missions. In our down time, sometimes we would play football, and him being 6'5", he was a beast and he played really well. You know, we had some good times. It was an honor to be able to serve with Soufrine," says friend and fellow soldier, SGT Jacob Kape.
PFC Soufrine awards include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, and the NATO Medal, among others.
He is survived by his parents, sister and brother. He was from Woodbridge, CT and joined the army in May of 2010.
