Colorado residents and insurance companies are just starting to assess the damage from Wednesday's blast of tornados and thunderstorms, but the bill likely will be big.

Carole Walker of the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association said Thursday that the larger insurance companies expect the damages to run into the millions. The group represents insurers in the region. Golf ball- and baseball-size hail pounded the northeast Denver area Wednesday, battering houses and vehicles.

Tornadoes were reported across the plains. High winds demolished a barn in Windsor and heavy rains caused flooding in Pueblo and north of Denver. Hail wreaks heavy damage in Colorado in the spring and summer. The insurance group says hailstorms have caused more than $3 billion in insured damage over the last 10 years.
