Colorado Springs Police and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office have launched a joint administrative review stemming from concerns raised following a liquor code investigation at a local Hooters restaurant.
Police say the goal isn't only to address this particular incident, but also to review the procedures of the Metro Vice and Narcotics Alcohol Enforcement Unit. They want to underscore this is not an inference of wrongdoing on the part of the officers that were undercover.
"We believe our officers followed existing policies and procedures regarding this investigation" said Chief Myers, "we have also listened to the voices of our community and want to make sure that our policies and procedures are in alignment with the highest level of the police profession."
The two agencies have also asked for a representative from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to take part of the review. According to police, Mayor Steve Bach has offereing input and support.
El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said, "I am grateful to have a metro unit where both Chief (of Police Richard) Myers and I realize the importance of the need for ongoing review of law enforcement procedures. This ensures accountability to the public which is of paramount importance to our agencies. We are grateful to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for their assistance in this process."
