IOC downplays email to Hungarian committee

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) - The International Olympic Committee is downplaying an email that the Hungarian Olympic Committee says threatens its athletes and others.

Hungary's Olympic Committee says the message written in Russian and English threatens its athletes with terrorist attacks at the Sochi Olympic Games.

The secretary general of the Hungarian Olympic committee tells a sports daily newspaper that the message also urges the Hungarian delegation to stay away.

The Hungarian committee's president tells the state news wire MTI that other countries' Olympic committees had also received similar messages.

The IOC repeated its stance that it "takes security very seriously," adding that it seems like the message to Hungary "contains no threat and appears to be a random message from a member of the public."

A spokeswoman for the Switzerland's Olympic committee said similar threats are "normal" so close to the Winter Games next month.
