Jail faces staff shortage in Trinidad

The Fraternal Order of Police is asking the Las Animas County Commissioners to reconsider planned budget cuts at the Sheriff's Office.

The Fraternal Order of Police represents 5,000 law enforcement officers in Colorado. While pointing out the unprecedented budget problems facing Las Animas County the statement from the police organization said the proposed cuts will have a long term impact on officer safety.  According to the release an incentive program for employees who voluntarily resign has resulted in six detention officers announcing they will retire.  This, according to the Fraternal Order of Police will cause a safety risk at the county jail.
