Judge orders insurer to make golf expenses public

A Denver District Court judge has ordered the state-chartered workers' compensation insurer to make public the expense accounts for a golf trip earlier this year.

The judge ruled Thursday that the reports are public information after reports that CEO Ken Ross and three board members took a golf trip in May to Pebble Beach that was intended to reward top-producing agents.

Pinnacol attorneys contended the information is proprietary and could invade agents' privacy rights.

The court gave Pinnacol 30 days to hand over the information.

A spokeswoman for Pinnacol did not return phone messages on whether the company would appeal.

Pinnacol is Colorado's insurer of last resort. It qualifies for a series of tax breaks as a quasi-public entity.
