Keep moving to overcome fatigue of cancer treatment

Exercise can benefit some cancer patients during their treatment.

Researchers at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit created a customized exercise program -- according to a patient's weight, overall health and type of cancer treatment. Those on the exercise regime said their quality of life improved and that they felt less fatigued. Exhaustion is a common side effect of cancer treatment.

Breast cancer and prostate cancer patients were included in the study.

Researchers are scheduled to present the study June 7 at the 2010 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting in Chicago.

If you're undergoing cancer treatment, contact the Dorcy Cancer Center at St. Mary Corwin Hospital. Caring doctors and other health professionals will take the time to explain treatment options, and devise specialized programs.
