Kozma, Memphis Take Down Sky Sox, 12-1, in Butler's PCL Debut

The beginning of the second half got off to a bumpy start for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox as they dropped the first game after the All-Star break, 12-1, to the Memphis Redbirds on Friday night at AutoZone Park.

In his PCL debut, RHP Eddie Butler (0-1), who began his Major League rehab on Friday, got off to a rough start and allowed three runs in the first inning as Memphis took a quick 3-0 lead, thanks to an RBI single from Greg Garcia and a two-run single from Pete Kozma.

The Sky Sox would scratch a run back when Angelys Nina singled to shortstop allowing Matt McBride to score.

Butler started to settle down after the third with back-to-back perfect innings but trouble hit when he allowed two runners in the sixth before RHP Rob Scahill came in relief. Scahill walked his first three batters faced, allowing both of Butler's runs to score.

Butler made his Major League debut on June 6th, but was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 9th (retro to June 7th) because of inflammation in his right rotator cuff. He tossed 5.1 innings, while allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, and finished with four strikeouts and three walks. In his first rehab start, he tossed 75 pitches and got 49 to cross the plate for strikes.

The Redbirds tacked on six runs in the sixth and another in the seventh off of LHP Yohan Flande.

Picking up the win for Memphis was LHP Tyler Lyons (3-1), who allowed just one run on five hits in five innings of work, while striking out six batters.

Kozma finished with a game-high three hits, including two doubles and three RBI.

For the Sky Sox, only Dustin Garneau collected at least two hits.

The Sky Sox and Redbirds will be back in action with a doubleheader beginning at 4:05 p.m. (MT) Saturday after travel issues forced Thursday's series opener to be postponed. RHP Jair Jurrjens (NR) will start game one for the Sky Sox, while LHP Pedro Hernandez (6-4, 6.30 ERA) will start game two.
