Lady Bombers build basketball tradition

"In my dreams, I usually jump as high as Kobe Bryant and make a dunk," said Lady Bombers guard Makayla McKeehan.

These girls can't quite dunk, but this group of sixth-graders from Falcon is one of the best hoops teams in Colorado.

"I can do in between the legs, crossover, and behind the back, kind of," said Spencer Lindsey.

"I do a lot of in-between the legs in my house, when I'm not supposed to," said McKeehan.

But the fancy stuff takes a back seat to intense training, popcorn drills, and suicides. The eight girls of the Lady Bombers basketball team have more firepower than a B-17 Flying Fortress.

"We run when we haven't done the best things," said Lindsey, a guard on the team. "But we run to also get in shape. We do get really sweaty after practices, but it's okay."

"It does get pretty tiring, so you've got to keep in shape," said Lady Bombers guard Kirsten Regennitter.

But when these girls hit the hardwood with opponents, that conditioning pays off, with fundamental defense, pick and rolls, then nothing but net.

The Lady Bombers have won two SoCo Basketball Championships. They also have competed and medalled at tournaments out of state.
