A local man is taking five seventh graders to Moldova in Eastern Europe, to deliver shoes to orphans. Rick Lewis works through Children's Emergency Relief International. Abandoned orphans are given a place to live until they turn 16, then put out on their own. It is hoped the shoes will protect them during the harsh winters in Moldova. This small country located between Romania and the Ukraine near the Black Sea suffers with problems from drug abuse and poverty. Moldova is also a main supplier for sex trafficking.
