Students at four local high schools are joining in some friendly competition to help feed families in need in our community.
Palmer, Wasson, Mitchell and Coronado High Schools are each trying to collect 2,000 pounds of food at the Harvest with a Heart Food Drive over Valentines Day Weekend.
The Two Men and a Truck Moving Company donated four large trucks to collect all of donations with.
Buffeigh O'Donnell, Palmer's Student Body President, says the goal is to help Care and Share to get ahead of the curve in donations before summer break, a time when demand typically increases but donations generally drop-off.
"We're concerned about the economy," O'Donnell said. "A lot of students at Palmer, as well as at the other schools, are recipients of what's raised by Care and Share," O'Donnell said.
Harvest with a Heart will take place Saturday, February 13 at Coronado High School, 1590 W. Fillmore. Cash and canned food donations will be collected between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
For the sake of the competition, the public is encouraged to designate which high school they want their donation to be assigned to.
