Local students head to national competition

Students from Heaton Middle School in Pueblo will be headed to a national science and engineering competition in Seattle this summer.

The Heaton team took first place in a statewide MESA contest in the wind turbine challenge on April 13. Yency Gonzales, Melissa Johnson, Sheyanne Bernal, Noah Suazo and alternate Mycala Klifel were tops out of teams from 21 middle schools.

The national Wind Turbine Challenge will take place in Seattle on June 22-24.

Donations are being accepted to help get the team to the national event. Make checks payable to Heaton MESA Team, and send them to Heaton Middle School, 6 Adair Road, Pueblo 81001.
