The Colorado Springs man charged with killing a female friend in the Pittsburgh area told police that the shooting was an accident.
Our sister station WPXI in Pittsburgh reports that Courtney Daily, 18, also of Colorado Springs was found with a gunshot wound to her upper body in an upstairs bedroom of a home in Seven Fields, Pennsylvania Tuesday night.
She was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital where she later died.
Eric Rutledge, 18 told investigators that he grabbed a shotgun when he heard noises downstairs. He said that he and Daily then took turns holding the gun and when it was his turn he pointed the gun at Daily and pulled the trigger.
Rutledge told police that he thought the gun was unloaded. He was taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide. Officers with the Cranberry Township police department are investigating the case.
