Local young gymnasts love watching the Olympics

If you've ever watched Olympic gymnasts and thought, 'I wish I could do that,' you're not alone!

We found out those athletes are a huge inspiration to kids and teens in Pueblo.

These gymnasts pour their heart and soul into the sport.

They're in the gym almost everyday.

Of course, a lot of inspiration comes from the Olympics.

"Every time we're in the gym, that TV is on," said Mathew Smith, one of the coaches at Stuntz Academy. "We're watching those guys and girls do whatever they can do. It's really amazing what they can do."

"It's pretty amazing," said Bailey McArthur, an 11-year-old gymnast.

"They're really good," said Chelsi Baruth, a 19-year-old gymnast.

They're quick to tell you about their favorite.

"Gabby," said Austen Asher, a 16-year-old gymnast. "She's so little, but she's so good and powerful."

"She's such a strong tumbler," said Ashley Richardson, a 16-year-old gymnast.

Even if they don't go to the Olympics, they love other benefits like physical health, cheerleading, scholarships, and new friends.

"We spend years on end in the gym with the same guys and girls, and you really develop a great bond with these kids," said Smith.

They all say Olympic gymnasts are major role models.

"Well I know for me, it motivated me to try gymnastics, so I know when I see these others watching it, they've got those looks on their faces," said Smith. "I know they want to go out there and try it themselves... A lot of kids come in. They seem really eager to learn those flips that the gymnasts are doing and all of the stuff they see on TV, so all of our classes are pretty much almost doubled really in their sizes since the Olympics have started."

They'll coach all kids who want to learn.

Coaches are preparing those at Stuntz Academy for competitions in 2013, including Nationals and the World Championship.
