BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - The coroner's office has identified a 51-year-old Longmont man who drowned after his canoe capsized in Brainard Lake.
Authorities say Daniel Stechman was in the canoe with a relative Sunday morning when it overturned. The Longmont Times-Call reports Tuesday (http://goo.gl/anp3c7 ) that the Boulder county coroner has not determined a cause or manner of death.
But Boulder County Sheriff spokesman Cmdr. Rick Brough says it is possible Stechman suffered a heart attack.
Stechman and the family member who was in the canoe were wearing personal flotation devices. Witnesses told officials that Stechman was struggling in the water trying to make it to shore. Two fishermen pulled him to the shoreline but he was not breathing. The family member on the canoe survived.
