Maduro elected president of Venezuela

Venezuela now has a new leader five weeks after the death of President Hugo Chavez .

Nicolas Maduro, Chavez's hand-picked successor, has been declared the winner in official results.

Long lines at the polls formed early in the morning and again in the afternoon as this politically divided country cast its vote.

Maduro promises to extend Chavez's socialist programs for the poor.

Venezuela's new president will face serious domestic problems.

His opposition, Henrique Capriles, is refusing to accept the results of yesterday's election and is demanding a recount.
