Alvin Gutierrez has never seen a bear in his neighborhood in the 13 years he's lived in Colorado Springs, until now.
"It's a thrill", says Gutierrez. "It kind of tripped me out."
At 5 a.m. Sunday, Gutierrez heard some large banging outside his window. When he looked out, he saw two black bear cubs, followed by their mother. The bears had gotten into his trash.
He thought they had left, but he later saw them sleeping in a tall pine tree in the middle of the mobile home park. He lives at the A-1 Mobile Village, near 8th Street and Cimarron.
"My grandson came up, and he has friends down the road here, and he said, 'Grandpa, the bears are still up in the tree over there.' He was really scared about it. I came down with my camera and got a couple of pictures of it," says Guiterrez.
The bears will likely come down from the trees at dark, once the commotion and picture-taking are finished.
