DENVER (AP) - A 62-year-old Denver man is accused of attacking his 80-plus-year-old parents and holding them in a room for days with no food or medication.
Denver prosecutors said Wednesday that Clifford Garel is in custody on charges of attempted murder and assaulting at-risk adults.
Prosecutors say Garel's 84-year-old mother was injured so badly she had to be hospitalized, but no other information was available on her condition. His 83-year-old father had less serious injuries.
Garel is accused of keeping his parents in their bedroom for several days earlier this month.
He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
Conviction of attempted murder carries a sentence of up to 24 years, which can be doubled if a judge finds aggravating circumstances.
