Colorado Springs Police were planning to take a man to detox to sober up, but after a scuffle, they ended up taking him to jail.
Marvin Owens, 38, was booked on several charges including Assault on a Peace Officer, after he allegedly kicked an officer several times and assaulted a paramedic.
Officers were dispatched to a convenience store in the 28-hundred block of E. Pikes Peak Ave. on a "check the welfare" call. Police say when they arrived Owens, "appeared to be extremely intoxicated," so they decided to send him into detox, but waiting for a detox van to arrive, Owens got upset and allegedly took a swing at the officer, who avoided getting hit, but after being handcuffed Owens started to kick the officer. An ambulance arrived on scene and paramedics were tending to Owens when police say Owens spit in a paramedic's face and then punched them.
Owens was taken to the hospital and then went to CJC. Both the officer's and the paramedic's injuries were minor.
