Man charged for trying to smuggle handcuff key into El Paso County jail

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says a security scan helped them find a handcuff key that was smuggled into the Criminal Justice Center.

Deputies say Andrew Stiern was arrested by CSPD officers Thursday evening on multiple felony warrants. Stiern received a Secure Pass scan the next day as he was booked into the Criminal Justice Center, and upon review, Sheriff's Office personnel noticed an object in his mouth that looked like a key. That key was later found and confiscated.

In addition to previous charges, Stiern now faces felony charges related to smuggling contraband and attempting to escape.
