Man walking on interstate is killed near Walsenberg

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating an auto-pedestrian accident resulting in one minor injury and one fatal injury that occurred on Interstate 25, 1 mile north of Walsenburg.
A 2003 Saturn Ion was traveling southbound on Interstate 25. A pedestrian, wearing dark clothing, was walking southbound, approximately six feet in the right hand lane. The Saturn collided its front with the pedestrian. After impact, the Saturn continued southbound coming to a controlled stop on the right hand shoulder of the road. The pedestrian continued southbound, coming to rest in the left hand travel lane.

The Saturn's driver, identified as 36-year-old Eduardo Valenzuela of Anthony, NM, was restrained at the time of the crash. He was transported to Spanish Peaks Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. The pedestrian, was identified as 31-year-old David Hampton of Trinidad, CO. He died as a result of his injuries.

At this time, alcohol and drug use are not suspected factor on part of the driver. Toxicology
results are pending at this time for the pedestrian.
