Mars training no paradise for crew

HILO, Hawaii (AP) - It's a mission to Mars -- that won't leave Hawaii. Six volunteers have started on a four-month simulated space mission. They're living in a small dome on Hawaii's Mauna Loa volcano -- and it won't be much fun, either. Kim Binsted, the project's principal investigator, says they're going to be deliberately stressed out. The volunteers will have tasks to do, of the type that might be done on a mission to Mars. One of the jobs will be measuring lava flows while wearing spacesuits. The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports later projects of the Hawaii Space Exploration and Analog Simulation program will include a year-long mission.
