A man is on the run from police tonight and a massive search is underway in Midway.
Pueblo Police tell News First 5, they were following up on a tip of a wanted man that led them to a house on the east side of Pueblo. When they arrived, the man tried to leave in his car. Officers were in direct line of the car, so one officer shot at the car trying to disable it. The shot missed, and the wanted man then led police on a chase north on Interstate 25.
Pueblo Police say the man they're looking for is Richard Roever who is 50 years old. Roever was convicted in 1988 for attempted first-degree murder out of El Paso County. He was on parole, but had warrants out for his arrest for violating parole. Authorities from several agencies are searching in the Midway area, between Colorado Springs and Pueblo. For a time, at least two exits along the highway were closed, but are now back open. Police tell News First 5 they are confident they have him surrounded and hope to capture him within a few hours.
A reverse 911 call went out to people living in the Midway area. They were told to be on the lookout for a green 1995 Ford Explorer and to stay in their homes.
Officers warn people in Midway and those traveling on I-25 not to pick up hitchhikers and to call 911 if they see anyone walking around the area.
Pueblo Police is receiving help from Colorado State Patrol, El Paso County Sheriff's Office, Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, Fountain Police, and Hanover Fire Department.
