Mental hospital to free woman accused in slaying

DENVER (AP) - A Colorado woman found not guilty by reason of insanity on charges of killing her mother-in-law and trying to kill her husband has been granted conditional release from the state mental hospital.

The Denver Post reported Saturday that Teresa Lynn, formerly known as Teresa Spitz, will be monitored by doctors but doesn't have to be accompanied by Colorado Mental Health Institute staff.

She was charged with shooting her husband in the face at their home in the Denver suburb of Englewood in 2004 and then shooting and killing her mother-in-law, who lived with them.

She and her husband, Peter Spitz, have divorced. He was blinded by the shooting.

He tells the Post he fears for his life and that of their son if Lynn is released.
