Military sexual assault reports rose this year

New data from the Department of Defense reveals a disturbing trend among members of the military.

Figures released today show that "reports" of sexual assaults in the military rose 46 percent from fiscal 2012.

From July 1, 2012 until June 30, 2013, the Department of Defense received more than 3,500 reports of sexual assault. The reports cover a number of offenses from unwanted touching to rape.

The Department of Defense says the increase in number of sexual assaults being reported shows victims have more confidence in the Department's response and that they support the system.
