Mine manager: 'Noxious gases', not an explosion, led to two deaths and 20 injuries in Ouray

OURAY, CO- A mine manager is telling news outlets tonight that noxious gases, not an explosion, led to two deaths and 20 injuries at a mine in Ouray.

Our news partners in Denver, 9News, are reporting that update from a mine manager.

Ouray County spokeswoman Marti Whitmore says the sheriff's office was called to the Revenue Virginius mine early Sunday morning to repond to the incident.

Two miners were trapped, and later confirmed dead. Twenty others were injured, and taken to area hospitals. All but two have been released, according to emergency officials.

A news conference is set to begin at any time to pass along more information on exactly what happened. News 5 is staying on top of the situation, and will provide updates both on air and online.
