Four ski resorts in Colorado receive a D rating when it comes to the ski area environmental scorecard.

One of those resorts is Monarch Mountain.

The scorecard is based on environmental factors such as habitat protection, watershed protection, and climate change.

Monarch's D was mainly based on their plans to potentially expand.

While they do plan to expand, those at Monarch aren't concerned about the rating, saying it's from a small group that doesn't actually talk to the resorts their reviewing.

"They're views are sort of extreme," said Greg Ralph, Director of Marketing at Monarch Mountain. "They don't really communicate with any of the ski areas that are in that supposed survey. It's basically they're releasing their opinions.

They add they've had meetings about expanding and no negative comments have come up from the public.

Others receiving D's in Colorado include Breckenridge, Eldora, and Steamboat.
