Moose shooting under investigation

DENVER (AP) - Wildlife officials are investigating after someone shot a bull moose in Dillon and left the carcass to rot.

District Wildlife Manager Elissa Knox of Summit County tells The Denver Post the moose's remains were found Wednesday on Tenderfoot Mountain east of a shooting range.

It appeared the animal was shot in early October, possibly during the first rifle season between Oct. 12 and Oct. 16. Officials are investigating the shooting as a possible mistaken or careless kill by an elk hunter.

Dillon is about 60 miles west of Denver.
