More problems for cruise ships

Consumer confidence in cruise ships has dropped 12% in the last year.

Cruise ship fires, health threats, and power outages have grabbed headlines worldwide.

Now, the issue of crime against passengers is drawing the attention of the Senate Commerce Committee.

According to the committee's report, the number of crimes alleged aboard cruise ships is 30 times more than those reported publicly.

"It lulls families into a false sense of security and complacency when really they should be on a heightened awareness of the potential dangers," said Jim Walker, a Maritime Attorney.

A lot of the crimes not reported include sexual assaults against children.

The three biggest cruise lines are promising to post their crime data voluntarily next month.
